It's almost futile trying to do a google image search for illustrations of Glinda as she appeared in L. Frank Baum's books. As you might imagine, if you just type "Glinda," all that come up are photos of Billie Burke and Kristin Chenoweth. Same basic problem with Dorothy Gale.
This pic owes a bit to Eric Shanower, whose depictions of these characters are very faithful to the original illustrations by John R. Neill, but at the same time, he provided more detail to certain aspects. That was a special help in doing Glinda's headpiece, which I had a hard time understanding when looking at the original illustrations. The main source of confusion was that snood in the back.
I seem to recall the comic book Oz Squad once suggesting that Glinda was Dorothy's mother. Though it didn't really explain or elaborate on that little tidbit, I thought it was an interesting notion. That's not necessarily the implication here, but there's obviously something of a maternal vibe in this scene at least. Still, we never knew who Dorothy's parents were and it's a little odd that an ordinary girl would, through sheer happenstance, keep finding herself pulled back to the same magical place on multiple occasions. From my perspective, that would seem to imply that she maybe has some sort of innate connection to that place. Or maybe visiting Oz once just increases your chances of weird crap happening to you.
Eureka the (inexplicably) pink kitten is in here partly to help balance out the composition. I also added an owl because one of the illustrations I looked at (from Ozma of Oz) showed Glinda had a couple of owls in her throne room. So, I guess Glinda's palace is like the Planet Express Building.
It's true! Finding good Glinda references online is ridiculous. I also feel like Glinda and owls go well together, she has always had a sort of Athena vibe to her in my opinion. It's so great to see Neill style art work of these characters!
Thanks! Frankly, I don't mind if artists take some liberties with the characters. The Patchwork Girl is a good exmaple- she's so freaky looking, I practically welcome it if someone wants to draw her a little cuter than Neill did. Glinda's headgear was so weird to me that at first, I considered giving her a different look (after all, it's not like she can't wear something else), but I took it as a personal challenge to remain fairly consistent with canon.

I'm also having the artists I commissioned for my forthcoming Oz stories defer to canon interpretations of the characters in the fairyland.
Great job, Dave! Your style and enthusiasm always make for interesting viewing.
