Goofy's Bundle of Joy by rocketdave Goofy's Bundle of Joy by rocketdave
Disney would probably frown on the implication that Max was born out of wedlock, but I always thought it would be interesting/ amusing if he was the product of a one night stand.

I think the idea for this originated with my memories of the introduction of Binky's son Bongo in Matt Groening's Life in Hell, but I was also inspired by the episode of Family Guy in which Quagmire found himself in a similar situation.

There are many Classic Goofy shorts, not sure if from the 40's or 50's, in which Goofy is married and has a little son who he calls "Junior". The wife is present in the shorts, you dont see her face but her body is shown, and you can hear her voice too. In these shorts Goofy is called "George".

Funny enough, there is a joke in a cartoon in which the milkman mouth kisses Goofy (or "George") thinking he is his wife (Goofy is doing the housework that day instead of her).

I'm familiar with those shorts; I know Goof Troop was at least partly inspired by them.  I even recall reading something in the Disney Channel magazine where one of the people behind Goof Troop stated something to that effect, way back before the series even came out.  However, I tend to think of the George Geef persona as just a role that Goofy played.  In fact, I remember an old cartoon that presented that part as such.

Not to mention that in many of those Goofy cartoons, every man was a "Goofy"

Is Goofy a widower or an adopted father?

Max is obviously Goofy's son. I think we're meant to assume he's a widower, but in the scenario I portray here, the implication is that he got someone pregnant and she dumped Max off on his doorstep. Whoever Max's mother is, I'm not entirely convinced she's actually dead, in spite of what might have been said on the show.

I've often thought that the existence of Max must prove that, at some point, Goofy must have had sex. I have further thought that, since he's Goofy, any sex act with him must have started with leaping onto the bed and then accidentally bouncing off and falling out of a tenth story window but springing back in again on his suspenders getting caught on the bedframe and then both Goofy and his lover bounce back onto the bed which turns out to be a Murphy bed which snaps back up into the wall but then bounce back down again, then closes, then open, several more times, each time revealing them in different ridiculous positions, before finally ejecting them both when they go flying down the hallway and so on and so on.

Now there's an image. =P You've clearly put more thought into this than I have. But when I think about it, yeah, that's probably kind of how it would happen.

Trouble is, the series established that Goofy was a widower.

You know, I'm just not sure that that's true anymore. I thought I'd at least read there was a line in the show about Max's mom being a star up in heaven or something, but when I try googling the answer to that question, I can't find anything definite. The Disney FAQ says that the identity of fate of Max's mother is a mystery. Even if they said she was dead (and I'm thinking I might have been mistaken about that), that doesn't necessarily mean that Goofy's a widower.

It was specifically mentioned in one episode of "Goof Troop" - I don't remember the episode's name, but it involved Goofy dancing with Max's teacher (who he assumed was a blind date).

Interesting, I didn't see most of the show. So couldn't say if Goofy was married, or seen a picture of his wife. Speaking of Disney, children out of wedlock, and teen pregnancy. I've had a theory that Ron Stoppable's sister is really his child with Yori.

I didn't see much Kim Possible so I didn't know Ron even had a sister. I was also unfamiliar with the name Yori; after a quick google search, I initially thought you were talking about Tron's love interest.

From Disney's point of view, it's much better that a woman dies than a couple have a child out of wedlock.

I think the official canon is that Goofy was married, had Max, and his wife died.

You're probably right. I mean, that's pretty much the case with all of Disney's single parents- there's no divorce, just death. I think there was a line in the show or maybe the first movie that implied she was no longer alive, but as far as I know, they never directly addressed it. Heck, even if Goofy did say she was dead, it could be the case that he was lying for whatever reason; it wouldn't be the first time someone had misled their kid about an absentee parent.
