Phooey by rocketdave Phooey by rocketdave
Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall as Popeye and Olive Oyl. I don't care what anyone says; I like that movie.

Haven't seen any of Williams' movies these past four weeks since his death, but like Rocketdave I enjoyed the "Popeye" movie as a kid and this drawing from 2012 is a great tribute to it.

It's comforting to me to remember Williams smiling and in a cheerful mood, as shown here, even though that is obviously not how he (nor anyone else) feels all the time.

I can't quite articulate the how or the why, but something about Olive Oyl's expression here reminds me of the facial expressions in the RocketXpert gallery… (I mean that as a compliment, of course)

I remember seeing some of it as a kid, but that was a looooong time ago. Nice work!

As a cartoon-addicted kid, I could never understand Popeye's (or his nemesis Bluto's a.k.a. Brutus') nonsensical attraction to an inevitably UGLILY-drawn Olive Oyl. Your drawing indeed reminds me of Shelly Duvall's cinematic portrayal, which in turn shows how one COULD indeed fall for the likes of the character (even as whiny and self-absorbed as Olive Oyl is usually played).

Thank you, sir! Very lovely!
