The Doctor and Romana

I've recently been renting a few of the old Doctor Who serials from Netflix. I never had much of a chance to watch that show as a kid, but I always wanted to, plus now I'm a fan of the revived series, so that made me want to experience the old show even more. I mean, I liked Star Trek: TNG first and then I got into the original series, so why should this be all that different? In all honesty, though, for the most part, classic Doctor Who hasn't entirely been everything I'd hoped. Some of the stories are so slowly paced and padded out, they're a bit of a chore to get through.

But then I got to "City of Death," which I ended up loving and that changed my mind about the show. It should not have surprised me to learn that Douglas Adams wrote much of the script, as the story has the same mix of wit and interesting sci-fi ideas that I've seen in his other works. This was the first classic Doctor Who serial I've seen that I would not feel embarrassed about recommending to someone who is not a Doctor Who fan.
